There are many condominiums built beside the water and overlooking the golf course. In Saint Martin, private condominiums and time share apartments far outnumber hotel rooms. The economy is totally dependent on tourism - there is no agriculture or manufacturing of any kind. About 60,000 people live on the island full-time, many of whom are recent migrants from Haiti. The Haitians are welcome because they are willing to work in the menial jobs in hotels and on construction.
